As promised, the organizers of the Cannes 2024 Film Festival have added a number of films to the official selection, and Mohammad Rasoulof's new film is one of them. This is not the first time the Iranian director has had a feature film selected at Cannes.
In 2013, he won the FIPRESCI prize for his film Les manuscrits ne brûlent pas, presented in the Un Certain Regard 2013 selection, and then the Un Certain Regard prize in 2017 for his film Un homme intègre . Last year, Mohammad Rasoulof was also due to join the jury for this same selection, at the Cannes 2023 Festival. Unfortunately, under house arrest and in the grip of Iran's Islamic regime, the filmmaker was unable to make it to the Croisette.
The script and cast of The Seed of the Sacred Fig, his new film to be shown at Cannes 2024, are not yet known, and Mohammad Rasoulof may once again not be allowed to leave his home country to attend the festival.
Mohammad Rasoulof's The Seed of the Sacred Fig has been shortlisted for the Palme d'Or 2024.
