While most of us still look forward to snow at Christmas, by 2100 it could have disappeared completely from our latitudes. According to the latest report from Météo France, if climate change continues to advance at the same rate, temperatures in the capital could be close to those in Montpellier, all year round! It's hard to imagine yourself in a t-shirt on a terrace in November... and yet Paris could be constantly approaching 15 degrees minimum!
According to simulations based on the "Trajectoire de réchauffement de référence pour l'adaptation au changement climatique" (TRACC), France should be prepared for temperatures to rise by +2°C in 2030, +2.7°C in 2050 and +4°C in 2100 compared to pre-industrial times. An increase that is unfortunately conceivable, with rainfall "increasing slightly in the north-east", according to Jean-Michel Soubeyroux, deputy director of climatology at Météo-France, in contrast to the extreme south-west.
By the end of the century, "the average annual temperature in France could reach 14.2°C, with peaks of 15°C in the Paris metropolitan area", with"warming more marked in summer than in winter".
Climate: Paris prepares to face temperatures close to 50°C in ten years’ time
During the latest heatwave, the city of Paris had to face very high temperatures, over 40°C (104°F). In a few years, over 50°C (122°F) are expected in the capital city and the town is preparing itself. [Read more]
