Black Christmas, directed by Sophia Takal, revisits the 1974 slasher classic of the same name with a contemporary twist. Starring Imogen Poots, Aleyse Shannon and Lily Donoghue, this horror/suspense film is set in the festive but unsettling atmosphere of a university campus during the Christmas vacations. While the festivities are in full swing, a serial killer attacks the young women of a fraternity, turning the holiday season into a nightmare.
Black Christmas will be available on Netflix from December 15, 2024.
Synopsis: On a university campus during the Christmas vacations, a group of sorority girls fall prey to a serial killer.
Black Christmas is aimed above all at fans of horror films and psychological thrillers, especially those who appreciate modern slasher films. The film incorporates contemporary themes such as female empowerment and social dynamics on college campuses, while remaining true to the essence of the genre: suspense, anguish and gripping scenes.
Fans of the original film, or of similar works such as Halloween or Scream, will find the classic slasher codes here: an isolated location, vulnerable characters and an elusive threat. However, the film's more topical approach may appeal to younger audiences, but less so to genre purists.
With Black Christmas, Sophia Takal offers a modern, angst-ridden retelling of the cult slasher, combining thrills and contemporary reflections. A perfect film for those looking for a touch of horror over the festive season, when the Christmas spirit takes a disturbing turn.
