Our preview of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth:
After a journey through Midgar, the second part of Final Fantasy VII takes us into a much more open world, immersing us in the universe of this cult saga. From the very first minutes of the game, this new installment piques our curiosity and makes us want to plunge as quickly as possible into the epic story of Cloud and his companions.
New forms of interaction are introduced throughout the game's lengthy tutorial phase, allowing us to gradually integrate the new features of this latest installment as the story evolves. This time, the emphasis is more on exploration, with a wide variety of side objectives, combining combat, QTE and other game modes to break the redundancy of this open-world approach, which contrasts with the more "confined" atmosphere of the first installment.
Exploration, and the advantages it brings, notably allows players to customize their experience according to their desired level of difficulty. New features also await us on the combat front, with skills that help make battles more epic. The characters' personalities become increasingly complex, alternating between moments of humor and light-heartedness, and more striking or moving sequences.
Whether in the approach to the scenario or in the gameplay, we appreciate this installment, which, for us, respects both the promise of reviving the spirit of the cult video game while continuing to include those who are discovering the Final Fantasy VII universe through the remake. By alternating open-mode sequences with "tunnel" phases and integrating "à la carte" features, this new installment resolves compromises and adapts to a wide range of player profiles.
So, are you ready to find Cloud and his friends on the PC?
