Following its exhibition on Medieval Treasures, the Al Thani Collection atHôtel de la Marine continues its partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum. This time, it's a different era: the Renaissance, for an exceptional and sumptuous exhibition. From March 6 to June 30, 2024, come and admire A Taste of the Renaissance.
More than 130 works are brought together in this exhibition, enabling us to see the links, influences and differences between artists from different European countries. Paintings, sculptures, jewelry and silverware, glass, textiles, manuscripts and books, exotic objects: these masterpieces from diverse collections highlight the richness and inventiveness of this opulent artistic period. The exhibition brings together pieces from the Al Thani Collection and masterpieces from the London museum.
Fascination with Antiquity and its masters, renewal of genres and styles, great discoveries, exchanges between countries: the Renaissance marked an important turning point in the history of art. Collectors and art lovers are still enchanted by this period. In fact, it was a prolific period: aristocrats, wealthy collectors and patrons financed the finest artists of their time.
This exceptional exhibition showcases works by such great artists as Leonardo da Vinci, François Clouet, Vittore Crivelli, Donatello and Hans Holbein the Younger... All the while highlighting the connections that exist between artists, countries and subjects...
We admire objects of rare finesse, which conceal a deeper meaning than they appear. For us, these works adorn museum showcases, but in the past, they had many functions. Gold and diamond pendants were worn by European nobility. Rock crystal goblets were used at the table, and small portraits adorned outfits... On the same piece, you can admire the skills of different countries and craftsmen.
Art lovers, this exhibition is for you! Don't miss Taste of the Renaissance at theHôtel de la Marine.
