You're no doubt familiar with Antoni Gaudí, the famous architect whose main unfinished work is the Sagrada Familia, but do you know Joan Serramià, one of his descendants, a Catalan jewelry artist exhibited from December 13, 2024 to February 13, 2025, a stone's throw from Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. Influenced by his great-great-uncle, he creates numerous pieces of jewelry, small, portable, modular"sculptures", entirely handcrafted, notably worn by the women of royal families.
In the 5m2 space, located opposite the Parisian building, you can discover, free of charge, these works of jewelry, which are often interchangeable - a necklace can become an earring! The exhibition brings together several of Joan Serramià's emblematic series, including Gaudí (inspired by architectural works such as Parc Güell and Casa Milà), Roma (inspired by Tarragona, capital of the Roman province of Hispania, which abounds in historic remains), and Nature.
In 2004, on the occasion of the wedding of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, the Catalan government commissioned Joan to create a sculpture as an official gift to the royal family, while in 1995, all the pieces in the Naturaliste series were purchased by the Japanese imperial family! Precious jewels sculpted in metal without the use of precious stones, original and unique thanks to the artist's creativity.
