Augustin Frison-Roche weaves together religion, art and beauty with his Epiphanies, paintings exhibited at the Collège des Bernardins from January 9 to February 26, 2025. The artist takes us into his colorful, dreamlike world through 19 canvases of all sizes, free to view.
The exhibition is based on Christian imagery and stories, with a series of paintings depicting the seven days of creation, the Magi on the way, the dove that appeared during the baptism of Jesus Christ... But Augustin Frison-Roche doesn't stop at this single reference: in his work, we find influences from the arts of antiquity, the Italian Renaissance, Art Deco...
For the French painter, art allows us to see the beauty of the world, to marvel at what surrounds us, and to see beyond appearances. A star becomes a guide, a promise, a forest a temple.
Divine apparitions, epiphanies of the creator and the artist - all these meet and mingle in Augustin Frison-Roche's canvases, where he plays with color and light to convey the feeling of illumination, the passion that inhabits both the artist and the believer.
The exhibition is short, and we'd love to see more of these colorful, luminous paintings. In the monumental setting of the Collège des Bernardins, these paintings draw us in and guide us: we pass through a forest where the pillars of a monument seem to be transformed into tree trunks, then discover the seven days of creation, follow the star and the Magi until we finally discover the Christ Child...
For music lovers, a bonus work is unveiled on concert evenings: Augustin Frison-Roche has decorated the harpsichord, to reinforce the concept of epiphanies, those artistic surges that transform and guide us.
In September 2025, to kick off the new year in style, don't miss this free exhibition at the Collège des Bernardins.
