One year after closing her burger restaurant, Hélène Darroze opens Maison Michodière, her new, confidential Parisian address, in place of Jòia Bun. For this new project, there's no street-food, but a multifaceted space that's part creative workshop, part gourmet table and part event space.
Nestled on rue de la Michodière, in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, Maison Michodière is intended to be a cocoon as chic and contemporary as it is warm and elegant, just like the Parisian apartment of the chef, who loves art and design. To achieve this, Hélène Darroze called on architects Marie Vidalenc of Studio MVB and Olivier Castaing of School Gallery.
The duo have imagined a space with trompe-l'œil moldings, velvet curtains and hanging lamps that evoke the pages of a book. In the center of the room, a long oak dining table welcomes groups of friends, facing the open kitchen. The dining room extends into a seventies-style living room, with vintage armchairs and sofa, and a fruity Murano chandelier.
A single location for three purposes: firstly, a creative workshop where the chef and her teams develop their new ideas; secondly, a venue that can be reserved 7 days a week for any type of event (film shoots, masterclasses, private dinners featuring classic bourgeois cuisine); and thirdly, a restaurant open to all, by reservation, from Wednesday to Friday evenings.
Themed dinners are organized seasonally for around twenty guests at a time, including a Signature menu to celebrate Hélène Darroze's 25th anniversary in Paris (€275 for a 5-course menu with wine and food pairings, every Friday). "The adventure of Maison Michodière gives me the opportunity to revisit the emblematic dishes that have punctuated my history, such as creamy mushroom and royal sea bream with Colonnata bacon, fresh Périgord walnuts and Douglas fir vinaigrette, foie gras poached in a spicy vin des Dieux, or baba à l'armagnac," confides the Michelin-starred chef.
There's also a Truffe Blanche d'Alba menu (€380 with wine and food pairings, every Wednesday until the end of the year), a Truffe Noire du Périgord menu (with wine and food pairings, from January) and a menu featuring his creations served at the Grande Table Marocaine at the Royal Mansour Marrakech.
