The greatest of all the great white ballets, Swan Lake is indisputable, and there's no shortage of performances in the capital. After a run at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in December 2018, Tchaikovsky 's enchanting music returns to the same stage from December 24, 2019 to January 5, 2020 for 16 new performances!
A profoundly classical version of the ballet, choreographed here by Valeriy Kovtun,"based on the original version by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov". But for the uninitiated, what's Swan Lake all about? It follows the impossible love between a human prince, Siegfried, and a swan-princess, Odette (or Odile, depending on the version), under a curse from the sorcerer von Rothbart.
Featuring dancers Nataliia Matsak, Anastasiia Shevchenko, Iuliia Moskalenko, Denys Nedak, Jan Vana and Stanislav Olshanskyi, this new four-act staging is"a true tribute to the incomparable talent of Tchaikovsky, Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov". It's a magical way to spend the festive season, and a great way to end the year on Tchaikovsky's famous musical notes. Shall we book the evening, folks?
