Fun fact of the week, a man is now married to a tree in Paris, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. And this is not a whim but a well thought out and committed action for the ecology. As a matter of fact, this is not a first for Peruvian artist Richard Torres as he already married plants in the Caribbeans, Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia, in order to raise awareness about deforestation and climate change.
For his first marriage to a tree in Europe, he chose France and the foot of the Eiffel Tower for a greater symbol. He even stated it was “important to him to move to the City of Lights to change inhabitants’ awareness”. With his uncommon action, he regularly goes viral and enables the topic of massive deforestation to come forward. And the most incredible thing is that this is a genuine marriage.
The environment activist, dressed in a white suite, black tie and colorful hat, tied the knot with the lucky tree thanks to a marriage officiant and a few guests here to attend the event. To officialize their union, Torres kissed the bark before dancing and singing around the tree, like Peruvian traditions demand, with guests.
A very meaningful action maybe as the tree may have escaped being cutting down by the Paris authorities as they wanted to replace the green space with commercial facilities.
