Nestled in the heart of Paris's 13th arrondissement, the Josephine Baker pool is an atypical spot that is a delight for swimmers. What makes it special? It's located directly on the Seine, offering a beautiful panoramic view of Paris. The pool's aquatic facilities include a 25-metre open-air sports pool and a 500 m² solarium. Perfect for bathers on sunny days.
The Josephine Baker pool continues a tradition of swimming on the Seine that dates back to the 19th and 20th centuries, when the river was home to swimming pools in the form of floating pools. As awareness of the river's pollution grew, these pools began to develop filtering and chemical treatment systems, and stopped using water from the Seine. After the Second World War, only two such establishments remained: the Deligny baths and the "Royal" swimming pool. Piscine Deligny, the last surviving swimming establishment on the Seine, sank in 1993. In 2006, the Piscine Josephine Baker was inaugurated, reviving the tradition of swimming on the Seine.
Whether you're a seasoned swimmer or just looking to relax, the Josephine Baker pool is the place to be. Its 25-meter pool is perfect for laps, while its solarium offers a place to relax in the sun. The main attraction, however, remains its exceptional location on the Seine. Imagine doing a few lengths while admiring the peaceful flow of the river. An unusual way to enjoy Paris, especially when the sun is shining on the capital! As an added bonus, the site is regularly enlivened by events and programming, including exhibitions!
