Subdued lighting, fluorescent neon lights: welcome to the new pilates studio from Snake&Twist, the studios created by pilates teacher Marcia Sengal. Popularized by Sébastien Lagree, the eponymous method requires the use of a Megareformer, a machine that works all the deep muscles of the body. The star class of the Snake&Twist studios, Lagree now attracts a large number of regulars to its various studios on rue Saint-Didier (two addresses in the 16th arrondissement) and rue Rodier (in the 9th arrondissement).
After adding yoga to the range of disciplines on offer at the studios, Versa Climbing, a method of pedaling your whole body vertically, is now being taught. The idea? Engage all lower body muscles, build up arm muscles and strengthen abdominal muscles, all on a Versa Climber (as the machine is called), with a pop playlist playing at full volume. For a novelty, the Courcelles studio is the only one to offer Lagree and Versa classes, with around 25 minutes of each discipline in a single session, to work the whole body. This is what we tried out: accessible to beginners and advanced alike, the Lagree and Versa class is really top-notch for strengthening your abs, arms, buttocks and legs.
On-site, the studio has changing rooms where you can change before and after your session, with hairdryers, straighteners, shower gels, shampoo and other cosmetics. You can expect to pay €50 for a session, although packages of 5 to 20 classes are available at lower rates (up to €35 per session). Enjoy your session!
