Vole, Eddie, vole! retraces the life of the skier nicknamedEddie l'Aigle, and more specifically his journey to the Olympic Games. The skier's true story can be discovered at Théâtre Montparnasse, from September 18, 2024 to November 30, 2024. It's a chance to step back into the world of the Olympic Games, which will already be over in Paris next September.
The play features three actors Benjamin Lhommas, Sophie Accard and Léonard Prain, playing 20 characters. We are taken to the small English town where Michael Edwards was destined to be a plasterer. But a few minutes of television change the boy's destiny...
Michael Edwards, or Eddie the Eagle, was the first English skier to represent the British Olympic Federation in ski jumping at the 1988 Olympic Games. The skier finished second to last in the competition, yet his poor placing earned him great popularity. At the closing ceremony, the president of the organizing committee was quoted as saying, "At these Games, some competitors have won gold, some have broken records, and some of you have even flown like an eagle", earning him the nicknameEddie the Eagle .
The play, written by Léonard Prain and directed by Sophie Accard, promises to tell the story of Eddie the Eagle with humor and emotion . It has been awarded the Cultural Olympiad label by Paris 2024.
