The Cannes Film Festival 2024 is fast approaching, and more exciting announcements are being made every day. The organization of the world's most important film festival has just revealed the name of theguest of honor at the opening ceremony of this 77th edition, to be held on May 14, on the stage of the Grand Théâtre Lumière.
After Jeanne Moreau, Catherine Deneuve, Jane Fonda, Agnès Varda, Jodie Foster and Jean-Pierre Léaud, Meryl Streep will have the honor of kicking off the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. On this occasion, she will also receive an honorary Palme d'Or for her entire career, 35 years after winning the Prix d'interprétation for Un cri dans la nuit - her only appearance at the Cannes Festival to date (!).
"I am extremely honored to learn that I will be receiving this prestigious award. Winning an award at Cannes, for the international community of artists, has always represented the highest distinction in the art of filmmaking. Standing in the shadow of those who have already been honored is both humbling and thrilling," said Meryl Streep, "I can't wait to come to France to thank everyone in person next May!"
George Lucas and Studio Ghibli will also receive an honorary Palme d'Or at the Cannes 2024 Festival.
