If there's one monument to visit on Saturday September 21 and Sunday September 22, 2024, it's the Sainte-Chapelle, located on boulevard du Palais, and hidden from the general public by the Palais de la Cité enclosure, between the Palais de Justice and the Cour de cassation.
Visit this magnificent monument during the European Heritage Days. Just 300 metres from Notre-Dame de Paris, this Gothic monument is one of the capital's treasures: built in the 13th century, the Sainte-Chapelle is world-famous for its 1,113 stained-glass windows, which reveal over a thousand scenes, letting light in from all sides of the monument.
Beyond its religious significance, the Sainte-Chapelle is also an architectural treasure: the 33-metre-long, 42.5-metre-high monument, with its 1,113 stained glass windows, took just seven years to build between 1241 and 1248. Its spire, reconstructed in the 19th century, rises seventy-five meters above the ground.
