The Val-d'Oise departmental archives are opening their doors to children for the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days), this Saturday and Sunday, September 21 and 22, 2024.

The Journées du Patrimoine return on September 21 and 22, 2024. During this exceptional weekend, which also takes place in several European countries, many establishments open their doors to the general public, often free of charge.

It's an opportunity to discover places that are sometimes inaccessible, or the secrets of monuments you thought you knew well. This national and international event is attended by some fifty countries in Europe and around the world. The event was created on the initiative of Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, in 1984. This year marks the 40th edition of the JEP, with the themes of living heritage and sports heritage.

And like every year, the Val-d'Oise ( 95) departmental archives will be taking part! This institution is responsible for collecting, classifying, preserving and making archives available to the public. With a department as rich as the Val-d'Oise, it's obvious that these walls contain many treasures that it would be a shame not to discover.

To mark the Journées du patrimoine, the archives départementales are offering a range of activities for young and old alike. Find out what's in store for you this special weekend.

The JEP 2024 program at the Val-d'Oise departmental archives :

  • Heritage children at the Val d'Oise Departmental Archives
    Friday, September 20, 10:00 am, 2:00 pm

In the year of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, the Val d'Oise Departmental Archives are presenting a brand new exhibition dedicated to sporting activities in the Val d'Oise since the beginning of the 20th century, on view from February 28 to September 22, 2024.
Over time, elite leisure sports have been democratized and professionalized, and new ones have emerged. More recently, they have been feminized and opened up to people with disabilities. Today, they are practiced by people of all ages, in clubs or individually.
This exhibition brings together archives, publications and original objects documenting these developments. Some come from the collections held by the Département, while others come from individuals and associations who responded to the collection of archives launched last year by the Service interministériel des Archives de France.
    Poster your sport!" workshop

An evocation of sport in the Val-d'Oise from yesterday to today
The "Objectif Sports, pratiques d'hier à aujourd'hui" exhibition traces the history of sporting developments in the Val-d'Oise since the end of the 19th century. It combines archival documents, objects and explanatory panels to create a colorful and dynamic visual universe.
The guided tour provides a wealth of anecdotes about local practices, whether you're a sportsman or not!
Free admission without reservation also possible all weekend from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Heritage Bingo
