The start of 2025 promises to be a turbulent one in northern France. With the arrival of Storm Floriane, high winds are expected to kick off the week. Météo France warns that " Storm Floriane will circulate rapidly but intensely during the day on Monday along an axis running from the Vendée to the Ardennes, passing through Ile-de-France ".
As a result, the weather service has placed 18 of France's départements under a " strong wind " orange alert, and another 50 or so under a yellow alert this Monday, January 6, 2025. In detail, the orange alert covers the Ardennes, Aisne, Meuse, Marne, Eure et Loire, Loiret, Sarthe, Loir-et-Cher, Maine-et-Loire, Indre-et-Loire, Vendée, Rhône and Loire.
Paris and the whole of the Île-de-France region (Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne and Val-d'Oise) are also under orange alert for the risk of " violent winds " this Monday. According to Météo France, this windy episode could begin in the morning of January 6.
Some gusts could reach 95 km/h, particularly in Yvelines and Essonne. Paris and its inner suburbs will not be spared either, with violent winds approaching 85 km/h! But these disturbances should ease off in the afternoon, moving"towards the north-eastern regions in the early afternoon, to evacuate rapidly towards Belgium", warns Météo France.
A return to less turbulent weather is forecast for Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
