As Météo France explains, " heavy rainfall can have serious consequences for the safety of people and property. They can cause flooding through runoff and overflowing rivers ". Motorists are also urged to exercise extreme caution in the event of heavy rain. " Even moderate rain can reduce our ability to see and be seen " on the roads, and " speed increases the risk of aquaplaning and the danger involved ", insists the weather service.
