As the weeks go by, the complete closure of the Centre Pompidou, inaugurated in 1977, draws ever closer. Major renovation work will result in the closure of the famous Parisian national center of art and culture for five years. Pending the start of this metamorphosis, scheduled to begin in September 2025, gradual closures have been announced until this autumn, when construction work begins.

Last January, the auditoriums of the Paris Museum of Modern Art closed their doors. This Sunday evening , March 2, 2025, it's the turn of the Bpi, the Centre Pompidou's Bibliothèque publique d'information, to close its doors.
But Bpi regulars need not worry. Admittedly, the public will no longer be able to go to the Centre Pompidou to access the Bpi until 2030. But they will be able to find this essential Parisian library in the east of the capital. The Bpi is getting ready to move. It will be temporarily relocated to the 12th arrondissement during the 5-year closure. The Bpi will move into the Lumière building (accessible via metro line 14) from Monday August 25, 2025. Workspaces accessible to all will be provided.
As Annie Brigant, deputy director of the Bpi, explained in an interview, the Bpi will occupy levels 2 and 3 of the south wing of the Lumière building, " covering a surface area of over 8,900 m2 open to the public. This temporarily occupied space represents "a loss of around 23% of the surface area currently occupied at the Centre Pompidou (10,400 m2) ", she adds. The library will remain open to the public free of charge, from 12 noon to 10 p.m. on weekdays, and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends and public holidays. The Bpi will be closed on Tuesdays.
In the same interview, Annie Brigant also detailed the projected timetable for the Bpi's move out of the Centre Pompidou. Preparations for the move will take place in March, while the actual move is scheduled for early April. This should last until the beginning of June. This will be followed by " a running-in period " during which " we'll have to take possession of the spaces, check that everything is working, make technical adjustments, pass the safety commission... in order to reopen the Bpi to the public on August 25, 2025 ".
Prior to its move, the Bpi at the Centre Pompidou is organizing a festive weekend from February 28 to March 2, 2025. On the program? Events and activities to discover throughout the library.
Another festive weekend is planned at the Centre Pompidou, from March 7 to 10, before the museum's main exhibition levels close (on March 4 and 5).
Center Pompidou: free weekend of festivities before closing
Ahead of the Centre Pompidou's complete closure next September for major renovation work, the Parisian cultural center is organizing a free weekend of festivities from March 7 to 10, 2025, to celebrate the museum's collection. On the program? Dance, tours, a jazz concert, DJ sets, workshops and a performance. [Read more]
