Every year, the Cannes Festival press conference is an opportunity for festival-goers to preview what's in store for the following month, as films in competition for the Palme d'Or, midnight screenings, special screenings and Cannes Premieres are revealed.
The Un Certain Regard selection, meanwhile, showcases filmmakers who bring a fresh, formally creative perspective to the 7th art. Czech director Zuzana Kirchnerová is part of the 2025 line-up, with her first film Karavan, which is in the running for the Caméra d'Or 2025 - awarded each year to a first feature.
This drama, starringactress Aňa Geislerovà, is a road movie between a mother and her son. Thierry Frémaux, general delegate of the Cannes Film Festival, recalled at the press conference that Zuzana Kirchnerová had already been honored on the Croisette, winning the Cinéfondation with her short film Bába.
Karavan will be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. The release date in French cinemas is not yet known.
Synopsis: Ester is the single mother of a mentally handicapped son, David. She has only one dream: to spend two weeks in Italy at her old friend's house without her son. At the last minute, plans change and she has no choice but to take David with her.
