From October 19, 2024 to January 25, 2026, The Opera Locos takes over La Gaîté Rive Gauche with a zany opera combining Mozart, Bizet, Mika and Beyoncé.

After seducing Parisian audiences, The Opera Locos returns for a long series of performances! From October 19, 2024 to January 25, 2026, the troupe takes up residence at the Théâtre de la Gaîté Rive Gauche, in the 14ᵉ arrondissement. This hybrid, festive show brings together five eccentric lyric singers who hijack the greatest opera arias by incorporating surprising pop touches.

This "comic opera show" is designed for the whole family, from age 6 upwards. Accessible and funny, it appeals to novices curious to discover opera in a different way, while entertaining informed spectators with a daring rereading of the repertoire. Its duration of 1 h 15, without intermission, makes it an ideal format for young audiences as well as for spectators in search of an offbeat musical experience.

On stage, five singers - a soprano, a mezzo-soprano, a baritone, a tenor and a counter-tenor - confront and challenge each other with music alone. The show features a selection of the greatest lyrical arias:

  • Mozart'sThe Magic Flute
  • Bizet'sCarmen
  • Offenbach'sLes Contes d'Hoffmann
  • Puccini'sNessun Dorma

These are joined by contemporary pop hits, from Mika to Beyoncé, to a supercharged mashup between Rossini and Mika. Each performer appropriates the arias with humor and emotion, while retaining the musical intensity of the originals.

The staging focuses on the performers, colorful costumes and comic situations rather than large-scale sets. This visual simplicity highlights the energy of the performers and the humor of the situations. The show is universal, with no spoken dialogue, and relies solely on music and stage performances.

Already acclaimed in many countries, The Opera Locos has established itself as an original creation capable of democratizing opera. After several triumphant seasons in Paris, its extended run at the Gaîté Rive Gauche confirms its success. As soprano Maria Rey-Joly sums up: "To be able to sing the greatest classics of our repertoire in a zany and funny way is unique in the business."
