The architect of the Place de la Concorde, Hittorff, had the Louqsor obelisk erected at the center of the square's composition. The pink syenite monolith was donated to France in 1831 by Méhémet-Ali. It comes from the temple of Ramses II in Thebes and dates from the 13th century BC.
