The Luxembourg Garden (known locally as the "Luco") was created in 1612 at the request of Marie de Médicis. It was restored under the direction of architect Jean-François-Thérèse Chalgrin during the First Empire. The 23-hectare estate is enlivened by flowerbeds and sculptures. It is located in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. A favorite meeting place for Parisians, students and strollers alike, it attracts visitors from all over the world.
