Rue des Martyrs - 1 Photos

The street was so named because, according to ancient tradition, it was the route taken by Saint Denis, the first bishop of Paris and martyr under the Roman Empire. After being beheaded, he walked along this road, holding his head in his hands, only to fall a few kilometers further north, where the Basilica of Saint Denis was founded. Today, it's a lively street.
