The Tuileries garden is the largest and oldest French garden in Paris. It was planted by Catherine de Médicis in 1564, when construction of the Tuileries Palace began. In 1664, the garden was completely redesigned by André Le Nôtre, who had already made a name for himself at Vaux-le-Vicomte. He gave the garden the appearance it has retained to this day.
