It's a popular walk for tourists, and one of the most beautiful in Paris, stretching from the Champs-Elysées gardens to Les Invalides. The Grand Palais, inaugurated in 1900, is a magnificent structure combining stone and steel. It is the venue for the capital's major exhibitions. We pass over the Alexandre III Bridge, built for the same purpose as the 1900 Universal Exhibition. We emerge onto the Esplanade des Invalides, Paris's immense green square. The Invalides, a building designed in the 18th century to house the kingdom's invalids, is in our sights. And deep in the mist, we can make out the Montparnasse Tower.
