The Conciergerie is one of the oldest remaining royal palaces in Paris. The palace was transformed into a prison in the 15th century. It was King Philippe le Bel who had a royal palace built, worthy of his position. At the time, the palace was considered one of the most beautiful in Europe. Finally, at the end of the 14th century, the kings of the Kingdom of France moved to the Louvres and Vincennes. The Conciergerie was then abandoned. The concierge, a man appointed by the king to keep order and look after the prisoners, decided to turn the palace into a prison. During the French Revolution, the Conciergerie became a major French prison.
