In order to help attend Covid-19 sick, Toulouse university hospital paramedics have designed a mobile hospital within a truck that can be deployed in 20 minutes only. An innovative and “one-of-its-kind” project that can fit up to 18 patients: “8 in a serious condition, and 10 in a milder condition” Samu 31 head Vincent Bounes told BFMTV.
“All caregivers are able to work inside. It has a treatment room, a pharmacy, beds… everything you can find in a hospital. It is a rather easy-to-use facility once it is open. What is technical is the opening and the closing, but teams are trained” Vincent Bounes adds.
This mobile hospital required 3 years of research and work and cost several hundreds of thousands of euros, helped by European financing. Like a military hospital and “packed with technologies”, this truck-hospital is “made to response – from the very start – to terrorism or industrial disaster” Vincent Bounes highlights.
This new facility will be used to the first time this Monday November 9 in Bayonne to help the Basque coast general hospital.
