So far, the only Covid vaccine given in France was by Pfizer, but Moderna vaccine is coming in the country. The second vaccine – approved on January 6 by the European Medicines Agency – has been recently approved by the Haute Autorité de Santé. In only a matter of time, French will be able to be given one of the two Covid vaccines.
But can you choose? Will it be possible to choose the vaccine you want injected? Invited on January 7, 2021 on BFTMV, Health Minister Olivier Véran has been very clear, saying the French cannot choose “the brand” of their vaccine if they are “effective at the same level”. “Today, we have two vaccines approved, two Messenger-RNA vaccines […] with the same effectiveness, the same indications. It is not about choosing” he explained.
Furthermore, as of today, it is not possible to choose the brand of a pediatric vaccine or a flu vaccine. “We’ll get more vaccines, there are three more of them we are expecting soon. If indications are the same as for the first two, you’ll be vaccinated with one or the other” he insisted on, adding “like it would be all over the world”.
