Despite the improvement earlier this summer, the coronavirus epidemic does not seem to have said its last word. As the French barely started to enjoy new-found freedom, the country is already preparing for the fourth wave that grows likelier. Particularly hit during the health crisis, the Île-de-France region is already facing an epidemic resurgence.
The main cause is said to be the spread of the Delta variant, more contagious than the historic strain. This increase in cases mostly involves young adults who are less vaccinated than older populations. Therefore, since July 6, 2021, Paris is the only department in mainland France displaying an incidence rate over 50 cases for 100,000 inhabitants.

Covid Île-de-France, 3 departments with incidence rates of over 200, towards new restrictions?
The coronavirus epidemic in the Paris region has seen a significant decline. However, due to the Delta variant becoming dominant in the region, Paris and the whole of the Île-de-France region saw a rebound in the epidemic. During a press brief held at the end of Wednesday July 7’s defense council, government spokesman Gabriel Attal also insisted on the rising numbers in 11 regions in mainland France including Île-de-France. Therefore, Paris reports a 91% increase in cases in one week, but this trend has also been noticed in other Île-de-France departments including Yvelines (+45%) and Hauts-de-Seine (+40%).
