While the average person celebrates Halloween on October 31, many people prefer to celebrate Samhain, the thousand-year-old Celtic festival. On this night, the border between the world of the living and that of the dead is more easily crossed by souls, who then wander among us! For this year 2024, the Centre Culturel Irlandais is organizing a wake with plenty of entertainment for the whole family!
With creative workshops, candlelit readings in a library and enchanting musical performances, enjoy an evening in a mysterious atmosphere and the presence of benevolent spirits, between Ireland and Mexico, which also celebrates its Dia de los Muertos.
(€5, reservation essential - places limited - in English and Spanish, ages 7 and up)
With Mexican artist Ana Quiroz, make "alebrijes", brightly colored folk art figures depicting fantastic creatures, for Día de Muertos, a tradition celebrated in Mexico to commemorate the memory of lost loved ones.
(€5, reservation essential - in English)
In the hushed ambience of the Heritage Library, writer-in-residence Niamh Boyce will read excerpts from her fascinating book, Her Kind, which recounts the trial of the "Witch of Kilkenny", Petronella, burned just 700 years ago for witchcraft. Tim MacGabhann, an author and poet who has lived in Mexico for many years, will recount some of his own tales.
(€5, reservation recommended - from age 15)
To round off the evening, these one-of-a-kind hosts will be offering us an experience of horror, revelry and humor...
