Attention social network users, this Wednesday, December 11, 2024, late in the afternoon, you probably noticed a problem when opening some of the META group's applications. Don't panic, you haven't been hacked: Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads and Messenger have all fallen victim to a global outage.
Since 6.30pm, users of the social networks have been reporting major malfunctions. These platforms, all linked to the Meta group, are displaying error messages or white screens, preventing any connection or publication. The specialized site Downdetector confirms the scale of the outage, with over 4,000 reports for Facebook at 7.10pm, while other services, such as Instagram, are reporting the impossibility of loading content.
On social networks, testimonials are pouring in. " Impossible to upload photos to Facebook ", " Messenger displays an error message ", lament several users. Others also confirm the impossibility of sending messages via WhatsApp. It's also impossible to make stories or post to Facebook.
This worldwide outage is affecting users in France, as well as in the USA, Spain and Japan. On X (formerly Twitter), many are turning to the platform to express their frustration or obtain information. Meta was quick to respond, issuing a statement on X, confirming: " We are aware of an issue preventing users from accessing their applications ". The Californian group added that it was actively working to restore service "as quickly as possible" and apologized to affected users.
This incident is reminiscent of another major outage two months ago, in October 2024, which also disrupted the Meta group's services. These repeated interruptions raise questions about the robustness of the tech giant's infrastructures, on which a considerable proportion of the world's digital communications rely.
For the moment, no return to normal time has been announced. We are closely monitoring the situation. You can follow the progress of the various platforms on Metastatus.
