After a long interruption to traffic on the RER C line this Thursday, January 16, 2025, train traffic finally resumed shortly before 5pm. A relief for many users of this busy RER line, as SNCF Transilien had announced that traffic would not resume until the end of service.
Traffic was partially interrupted on RER line C for many hours on Thursday. In detail, trains have been at a standstill between Invalides and Gare d'Austerlitz since this morning. Stations Saint-Michel Notre Dame and Musée d'Orsay were also inaccessible.
Traffic was also disrupted on the west side of the line, between Viroflay Rive Gauche and Saint-Quentin en Yvelines - Montigny-le-Bretonneux. In the early afternoon, trains were also at a standstill between Pontoise and Montigny - Beauchamp.
The reason for these traffic interruptions? A"breakdown on the network operator's installations", RER C announced on its social networks. An incident affecting the track was reported on Wednesday night. As a matter of urgency, specialized staff were called in to " establish a precise diagnosis " and " identify the origin of the incident ". They then " concluded that, to guarantee the safety of all, no trains carrying passengers could run in this sector ", as SNCF explained.
While SNCF Transilien did not anticipate any resumption of traffic until the end of service, train traffic finally resumed this Thursday late afternoon, shortly before 5pm. Note, however, that traffic remains disrupted on the entire line. "Some cancellations, slowdowns or changes to services are to be expected", SNCF Transilien points out.
