On the occasion of a peace conference bringing together Israeli and Palestinian activists at Paris City Hall, the Eiffel Tower will display the word "Peace" at 9 p.m. on Wednesday April 16. A symbolic initiative launched by the municipality in support of a peace process in the region.

The Eiffel Tower, emblem of the capital, will transform itself this Wednesday evening into a luminous message for peace. Starting at 9 p.m., the monument will display the word "Peace" in giant letters, as the City of Paris hosts a conference for peace in the Middle East, in the presence of Israeli and Palestinian activists gathered at the Hôtel-de-Ville. This initiative is in keeping with the humanist tradition of the municipality, which is regularly involved in symbolic actions of international solidarity.

Why light up the Eiffel Tower?

The projection of the word "Peace" on the Eiffel Tower comes against a backdrop of renewed tensions in the Middle East, asIsrael resumed its military operations in the Gaza Strip on March 18. A new truce proposal has reportedly been submitted in recent days to Hamas, an organization classified as a terrorist by the European Union, the United States and other countries.

Through this strong gesture, Paris, which presents itself as the "capital of human rights", intends to affirm its support for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

What's happening at Hôtel-de-Ville this Wednesday?

The peace conference, organized in collaboration with the French association "Les Guerrières de la Paix", brings together Israeli and Palestinian activists and mayors from all over the world. The aim is to promote collective reflection on possible paths towards a peaceful future in the region.

The event brings together Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris (PS), and Hanna Assouline, President of Guerrières de la Paix. According to the city, the aim is "to follow in the long tradition of initiatives taken by cities to promote peace ", as Le Parisien explains, by giving a voice to those who work for dialogue despite conflict.
