This year, you may not be craving classic music or electro music shows for Make Music Day. But perhaps are you craving something original for the 40th anniversary of this major popular event. If so, run to Ircam in Paris 4th arrondissement to enjoy Xenakis’ Polytope de Cluny for free, especially recreated on the occasion. Behind this mad name stands an incredible sound and visual immersive experience designed by composer, architect and mathematician Iannis Xenakis.
Created 50 years ago at the Thermes de Cluny, the show used to take the audience to a tornado of lights and electro music thanks to spatialized soundtrack including flashes and figures drawn by the beams of lasers and reflected in hundreds of mirrors. And it was a genuine success since the event gathered over 200,000 spectators between 1972 and 1974 in the Thermes de Cluny.
In 2022, Ircam Paris reopens the auditorium (the Espro) and offers you to discover the recreation of the Polytope de Cluny on the occasion. Laying on the floor, the audience can live again this immersive, sound and visual experience and discover another Polytope created like Xenakis’.
This immersive experience debuts on Tuesday June 21, 2022, on Make Music Day. That day, all the sessions will be free of charge as long as seats are available. Then, Iannis Xenakis’ Polytope de Cluny recreation will be to be discovered from Saturday July 2, 2022.
