Launched in 1982, the Fête de la Musique will return throughout France on June 21, 2024. More than 40 years ago, Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, Maurice Fleuret and Christian Dupavillon, architect-scenographer and member of the Cabinet, had the ambition of launching a major popular event enabling all musicians to play and make a name for themselves during a festive evening. The first Fête de la Musique took place on June 21, 1982.
Since then, the event has grown to become a popular and festive fixture in the eyes of many French people. Every year on the same date, June 21, amateur musicians and singers take to the streets, squares, parks and gardens to perform live music. Sometimes, concerts are even held in churches and museums.
