New Fête de la musique in France on June 21, 2024! This year, the famous, popular and festive event falls on a Friday. So you can enjoy a nice long evening of music before the weekend!
Organized for the first time in France in 1982, the first Fête de la Musique was the brainchild of Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, Maurice Fleuret and Christian Dupavillon, architect-scenographer and cabinet member. At the time, they wanted to launch a major popular event that would enable all musicians to play and make themselves known during a festive evening.
And it's been a huge success for over 40 years now! Every June 21, budding musicians and singers take to the streets to bring live music to life. From rock to rap, pop to electro, reggae to classical, zouk to metal, French variety to blues and jazz... all kinds of music are featured during the Fête de la musique.
There's no shortage of good music on this day, in squares, parks and gardens, boulevards and squares, bridges, cafés and bars, museums and churches... Free concerts are held in every corner of the capital and in every district, whether in Montmartre, the Latin Quarter, the Marais or Paris Centre.
