Nuit Blanche 2024: musical performance and dreamlike installation at the Musée Guimet

Nuit Blanche is a unique cultural event that transforms Paris into a huge museum open all night long. Once a year, the city's cultural spaces, from museums to art galleries, open their doors free of charge to the public for a night of art and discovery. It's an exciting celebration of culture and art, a chance for everyone to discover unique exhibitions, performances and installations.

At the heart of this cultural night, the Musée Guimet, also known as the Musée National des Arts Asiatiques, offers an unrivalled experience on June 1, 2024. Founded in 1879 by Emile Guimet, a French industrialist and scholar with a passion for Asia, this museum houses one of the most important collections of Asian art outside Asia. From India to China, via Japan, the museum offers a 5,000-year journey through the history of Asian art, in 5,500 m² of permanent galleries; through the cultures, religions and arts of this diverse continent.

More than 10,000 objects tell us more about Asian history and the Middle Ages. The collection includes furniture, clothing, ceramics, sculptures and manuscripts, as well as contemporary works, including Japanese ceramics by Hakuko Ono, Takahiro Kondo and Machiko Ogawa, photographs by Cambodian artist Mak Remissa and Japanese artist Takashi Arai, and the bamboo work of Chikunsai Tanabe, all of which offer a different perspective on a continent that seems attached to its traditions but is constantly renewing itself.

For Nuit Blanche 2024, a visit to the Musée Guimet is a must. Not only will you have the opportunity to discover its rich collection of Asian art, but you can also enjoy special guided tours, temporary exhibitions and interactive workshops.   Saturday June 1, 2024 6pm to 1am
  Li Chevalier, a Chinese-born French visual artist, former Peking Opera singer and ex-soprano in the Orchestre de Paris Chorus, shares T'ang Haywen's love of music and working with ink. Echoing her own work, she takes over the Musée Guimet on the evening of the Nuit Blanche with her immersive multimedia installation Rêve des âmes flottantes. Stringed instruments, adorned with paintings and calligraphy, are installed on stage amidst images of a city in ruins. An evening punctuated by several musical interventions in this moving, poetic setting, including pieces by Karol Beffa specially adapted to Li Chevalier's contemporary creation.
