Located in the 4th arrondissement of Paris, the Théâtre de la Ville - Sarah Bernhardt dominates the Place du Châtelet. This historic building was designed by architect Gabriel Davioud during the great restructuring of Paris orchestrated by Napoleon III and Baron Haussmann. Inaugurated in 1862, it was home to the Théâtre Lyrique troupe.
A fire, several wars, social revolutions... The Théâtre de la Ville has seen many ups and downs, regularly changing its name to reflect these different periods. Today, the theater - also known as the Sarah Bernhardt Theater - hosts a variety of contemporary dance, world music, chamber music and theater performances.
