For the White Night 2022 in Paris, the churches in the city provide lovely programs. This time, head to the 19th arrondissement, place de la Porte de Pantin to (re)discover the Eglise Sainte Claire providing a great program for the 20th edition of the White Night.
Admire the Sablier de Lumière or Hourglass of Light, an installation mixing arts and sciences enjoying a light and sound staging by Zorica Matic accompanied by designer Akari-Lisa Ishii.
The Catholic Church of Saint Claire is set at 179 Boulevard Sérurier in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. It was built between 1956 and 1958 by architect André le Donné – student to Auguste Perret. It was named after Clare of Assisi, an aristocrat canonized only two years after she passed away. Clare of Assis lived – following Francis of Assisi – in drastic poverty, profound humility and total God’s trust. This trust and the faith of the saint were as strong as the prodigious events imputed to her. Through ostentation of the Blessed Sacrament, she is said to have driven away Saracen mercenaries about to attack the Covent of San Damiano. Which encouraged Pope Alexander IV to canonize her, in 1255, two years after she passed away.
