The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are full of surprises. In addition to the many French celebrities who will be carrying the flame, international artists will also be taking part. If you're one of the many BTS fans, then you'll be delighted to learn that Jin, the eldest of the gang, will be present as an Olympic torchbearer for South Korea.
Singer Jin, 31, is well known as a member of the group BTS, but also for his personal commitments. According to HYBE, the group's PR agency, Jin will take part in the Olympic Torch Relay to spread a message of harmony and peace.
Since May, the Olympic Torch Relay has featured a host of international personalities, including rapper Jul, drag queen Miss Martini and youtuber Tibo InShape. These personalities, known as "Pathfinders", were selected for their significant contributions and commitment to their respective communities. The selection was made via a draw by Club Paris 2024, followed by an evaluation by a jury.
Olympic torchbearers are chosen on the basis of their actions and notable contributions to society. Jin, as a member of a group renowned worldwide for its positive messages and cultural influence, perfectly embodies these values. His participation in the relay is therefore entirely appropriate and bound to delight fans.
The announcement of Jin 's participation was made by the Korean media on July 2. Although details of his itinerary have yet to be revealed, his public appearance after a year and a half's absence is eagerly awaited. Indeed, the artist has just completed 18 months of military service. So there's every chance that fans of the idol will be on their feet for this event.
For the record, Jin isn't the first BTS member to take part in an international sporting event. In November 2022, Jungkook performed at the opening ceremony of the Football World Cup in Qatar. Suga, another member of the group, was named official NBA ambassador in 2023, while J-Hope recently released a documentary series on dance, available on Prime Video.
Jin is currently working on a solo album and sharing his tennis training sessions on the Weverse platform. He is also due to take part in a desert island survival show, in the style of "Koh-Lanta".
