After La Croisade, his ecological film shot in confinement, Louis Garrel returns with L'Innocent, his fourth film as director. Presented out of competition at this year's Cannes Film Festival, this crime comedy caused a sensation. The film also received two César awards at the 48th César ceremony on Friday, February 24: Best Supporting Actress (for Noémie Merlant) and Best Original Screenplay.
The film L'innocent will be broadcast on Arte on October 23, 2024 at 8:55 pm. Don't miss this opportunity to discover Louis Garrel's crime comedy.
Synopsis: When Abel learns that his mother Sylvie, in her sixties, is about to marry a man in prison, he panics. Supported by Clémence, his best friend, he does everything in his power to protect her. But a meeting with Michel, his new stepfather, could well open up new horizons for Abel...
As in his previous feature films(Les deux amis, L'homme fidèle, La Croisade), the actor-director also plays the film's main character, and is surrounded by a fine cast. Roschdy Zem(Enquête sur un scandale d'Etat, Roubaix, une lumière, Le Jeu) supports the actor in this duo of main characters. The cast also includes Anouk Grinberg(Tromperie, La Nuit du 12) and Noémie Merlant(Portrait de la jeune fille en feu, Les Olympiades, Jumbo).
L'Innocent will appeal to fans of crime comedies blending humor and family intrigue. With its subtle writing and remarkable performances, notably by Noémie Merlant, this film will appeal to viewers looking for offbeat, moving stories. Fans of Louis Garrel and his previous works, which mix drama and comedy, will particularly appreciate this new feature. The intimate dimension and quality of the cast enhance the appeal of this touching story.
The Innocent is a brilliant crime comedy with a talented cast and award-winning script. With touching performances and a captivating narrative, it will appeal to those who love stories full of emotion and twists.
Our opinion of L'Innocent:
For the first time, after three films shot in Paris, Louis Garrel took his cameras to Lyon to shoot L'Innocent. In addition to a change of scenery, the filmmaker changed his register, turning to pure situational comedy, zany and outrageous. The film is often hilarious, and features a gallery of characters as well characterized as they are played. The supporting cast is delightful, led by Noémie Merlant, who plays one of her best roles despite being totally out of place.
Above all, the main pairing of Louis Garrel and Roschedy Zem works. Thanks to their chiseled dialogues, their rhythm is jubilant and the laughs come thick and fast. L'Innocent is a delightful film, and the icing on the cake is the judicious use of music, which makes for some memorable scenes.
