The Cannes Film Festival is renowned for presenting daring and provocative films. Magnus von Horn's The Girl With the Needle, selected in Official Competition, promises to be a disturbing tale based on real events in the early 20th century.
Copenhagen, 1910s. Karoline(Victoria Carmen Sonne), a young worker, struggles to survive. In her distress, she seeks help from Dagmar Overbye(Trine Dyrholm), a woman she has just met. Despite the horrific circumstances of their meeting, Karoline and Dagmar develop a special bond.
Magnus von Horn, a graduate of Łódź Film School, is known for his dramatic films exploring the depths of the human psyche. The Girl With the Needle stars Trine Dyrholm, Victoria Carmen Sonne and Besir Zeciri, actors renowned for their ability to embody complex characters.
Magnus von Horn: "I've always wanted to make genre films. I wanted to tell my story in ahorror context. But the more I tried to develop a horror film, the more the drama stood out". He adds: "We wanted to get away from realism a bit and try to build an aesthetically interesting world. Not to make a copy (of Copenhagen) or a historically correct picture".
