Coming soon to Prime Video, The Gardener is the new action thriller from David Charhon, director of De l'autre côté du périph. The film stars Jean-Claude Van Damme as Léo, an enigmatic gardener whose skills extend far beyond landscape maintenance. The screenplay, co-written by Vincent De Brus and Sébastien Fechner, draws viewers into a murky affair of political elimination orchestrated at the highest level of government. Joining Jean-Claude Van Damme is an eclectic cast including Michaël Youn, Nawell Madani and rapper Kaaris. This intense thriller promises to captivate fans of action and suspense.
Every year, the Prime Minister secretly draws up a list of people deemed to be an embarrassment to the state, and has them eliminated in the name of raison d'État. Serge Shuster (played by Michaël Youn), a senior civil servant with close ties to the presidency, finds himself trapped in this infernal machination. To his horror, his name appears on this fatal list, condemning his family to an unfortunate fate. As Serge, his wife (played by Nawell Madani) and their children are hunted down, their only hope lies with Léo, their strange gardener, played by an in-form Jean-Claude Van Damme. Léo, whose past remains a mystery, could well be the key to saving the Shuster family from certain death.
Le Jardinier will appeal above all to fans of action films and political thrillers, but also to those who appreciate Jean-Claude Van Damme's atypical roles. The film stands out for its unique blend of political suspense and pure action, a rare cocktail in French cinema. Those who enjoyed Lukas or Assassination Games will find Jean-Claude Van Damme both intense and mysterious, while immersed in a political intrigue worthy of The President's Men. David Charhon infuses the film with constant tension, underpinned by strong performances, notably from Michaël Youn, who swaps comedy for a dramatic role.
Le Jardinier promises to be one of the most captivating French thrillers of the year, with Jean-Claude Van Damme in top form and a breathtaking screenplay by David Charhon. With its mix of political intrigue, action and suspense, this film will appeal to fans of the genre and surprise them with its many twists and turns. Not to be missed on Prime Video.
