For the holiday season, the musée du quai Branly presents Le Sabre et la Comète at the théâtre Levi-Strauss from December 14 to 22, 2019, a traditional Japanese puppet show conceived as a real visual epic.

It's a real invitation to travel that the musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac is offering within its Levi-Strauss theater. To close this year 2019 and with that, the decade, the great Parisian institution presents Le Sacre et la Comète,an unprecedented artistic encounter between the Japanese master of kuruma ningyō Koryu Nishikawa V and the American from Hawaii Tom Lee . It is a musical and wordless show (an original musical composition is played on stage by two musicians) where tradition and modernity, East and West, meet around the art of puppetry.

On stage, two main characters, an old astronomer who puts his last strength in his last great research and a former samurai who became a bandit after the tragic death of his son, manipulated thanks to a traditional puppet technique in which the puppeteer moves, in front of everyone, on a rolling board, while manipulating his characters to the rhythm of videos projected behind him.

Like a poetic fable, the show is composed of two stories highlighting characters at key moments of their lives.
