Pompei, the exhibition at the Grand Palais / extra time

When a world archaeologic site digitally takes over a Parisian museum… The Grand Palais offers you to dive into the excavations conducted in 2010 in Pompeii with an exhibition simply called “Pompei” and running from July 1 to November 2, 2020.

Mostly digital and immersive, this retrospective offers visitors to discover this city stuck in time through screenings, 3D reconstructions as well as works from previous and new excavations. Listed as Unesco world heritage, the site saw the excavations resume after the collapse of the House Of The Gladiators in 2010. Financially left behind, it didn’t take long for the international community to resume the work and enable the discovery of a new neighborhood.

Portrait of a women, mural depicting animal scenes, pictures of goddess, art and craft items, exceptional mosaics, human skeletons… as many archaeologic novelties brought back to day light enabling to polish the knowledge about this emblematic spot and its history that the Grand Palais has decided to highlight with a brand-new exhibition “in a spectacular and impressive way”.

Note that from September 16 to October 14, 2020 an interactive experience of virtual reality diggings will take place in the Foyer du Salon d'honneur, by the exit of the exhibition. Exploring the ruins of a Roman house, the visitor-aercheologist has a "time torchlight" and must sweet the light ont he walls to make the antique Domus appear as it used to be in 79 AD, before the eruption. An experience only open by online booking and open upon presentation of your ticket.

A city filled with history that continues to be just as fascinating, even beyond the archaeologists and other historians specialized in the story of the city submerged by lava. Let’s go and discover the past of Pompeii, friends, shall we?

La Réunion des Musées Nationaux-Grand Palais sets up a series of measures and instructions to keep people healthy and safe: the number of visitors within the Pompei exhibition is limited, booking is mandatory and free of charge, including for people enjoying free admission or a postponed tour.
