Fans of luxury goods or works of art? Learn to tell the real from the fake at the Musée de la Contrefaçon in Paris. Housed in a sumptuous 16th-century townhouse, the museum is packed with varied collections built up from seizures and brought together for educational purposes. The ideal place to hone your eye and your analysis!

Unusual! For over 70 years, the Musée de la Contrefaçon has been "hiding out" in Paris, not far from the Arc de Triomphe and a stone's throw from the Bois de Boulogne. The only one of its kind, it exhibits several hundred objects, spread over 6 rooms covering 200 m2! Concealed behind a large wooden door, the museum remains confidential to this day, and visitors are asked to ring the bell at the entrance to the building.

The museum was founded in 1951 at the instigation of Gaston-Louis Vuitton, President of theUnion des Fabricants (French anti-counterfeiting association), in the heart of a stately mansion in the 16th arrondissement. The grandson of the emblematic couturier had a mission to educate people about the difference between the real and the fake, and to warn them of the evils of counterfeiting.

The original idea was to use the multitude of collections, built up through seizures, to educate agents and companies. Today, the Musée de la Contrefaçon continues to present real and fake items side by side, to initiate and sharpen the visitor's eye. From luxury goods and works of art to everyday products, take a look at these objects and become an expert yourself!
