Attention textile design fans. Galerie du 19M, the arty space of Manufacture de Mode Chanel, presents its new freefashion exhibition "Carla Fernández. The handmade future", a true celebration of Mexico's traditional arts and crafts. From September 16 to December 17, 2023, immerse yourself in the colorful world of the designer stylist and discover her ultra-creative collaborations with Mexican artisans.
Founder of the eponymous brand with Cristina Rangel, Carla Fernández promotes ethical fashion, highlighting the textile heritage of Mexico's indigenous communities. For her creations, she works in symbiosis with over 180 weavers, embroiderers and sculptors from fifteen Mexican states, using ancestral techniques to bring contemporary pieces to life.
Initially presented in Denver and Mexico City, the exhibition will be expanded in Paris with new models specially designed for the occasion. These fruitful collaborations between Carla Fernández, Mexican artisans and four resident Maisons du 19M (Goossens, Massaro, Maison Michel and ERES), create a dialogue between yesterday's know-how and today's creativity.
In addition to the artistic aspect, the exhibition is designed to be both educational and participatory. A free program of workshops, lectures and performances will punctuate this new highlight of the Galerie du 19M, with the aim of promoting handicrafts and inspiring vocations among visitors.
The opening of the exhibition on September 16 is no coincidence... The date also marks Mexican Independence Day, as well as the start of the European Heritage Days! So don't miss this inspiring exhibition, blending cultural heritage and contemporary creation, through the combined talents of Carla Fernández, Mexican artisans and the savoir-faire of Manufacture de Mode Chanel. The new stylish rendez-vous, free and open to all, at Galerie du 19M.
