How about scaring ourselves, even after Halloween? La REcyclerie, an eco-responsible venue in Paris, is hosting L'Épouvantable Expo, an exhibition focusing on our nature-related fears, on view from October 31, 2024 to February 28, 2025. Blending art and reflection, the exhibition aims to explore the fundamental anxieties that arise from our relationship with the environment. With a mix of artistic productions and documents, this exhibition is a space for confronting our irrational panics.
L'Épouvantable Expo 's approach revolves around anthropomorphic and chimerical scarecrow figures, embodied in costumes, sculptures and drag performances. These visual elements are complemented by a variety of media, including podcasts, archives and literary excerpts, to provide a reflective dimension on the issues surrounding the destruction and transformation of nature. In collaboration with theAtelier des Artistes en Exil, theÉcole de la Maille de Paris and the Musée du Vivant, the exhibition engages collective reflection on how these fears can be transformed into engines of action.
To coincide with the opening on October 31, the REcyclerie is offering a unique event, Louder: Drag Metal, with a queer Halloween party featuring drag performances and metal DJ sets. Lyon-based drag artist Vazek Tomi leads this "cathartic" event, where artists such as Mami Watta and StrangulatioN"bring together the LGBTQIA+ community, the world of extreme music and all ecoterrified people". This ensemble of artistic expressions contributes to creating a space for dialogue on the future of our relationship with nature, between thrills and awareness. All you have to do is turn up!
