Chocolaterie Meunier in Noisiel (77), long a Nestlé chocolate factory, is a true 19th century gem. Although the Chocolaterie stopped making chocolate in 1992, the site remains unique: located in the Noisiel mill, bought by Jean-Antoine-Brutus Menier, the manufacturing workshops witnessed four generations of the Menier family before the company was bought out by the Perrier group in 1965...
While the site, owned by Nestlé, only opens its doors to the general public on the occasion of the Journées du Patrimoine, Cultival was authorized to present the heritage site to us all year round, during 1h30 guided tours in small groups (25 people maximum).
So, for over an hour, we discover an exceptional heritage, formed by the Chocolaterie and the workers' housing estate founded in 1898, which provided 312 families with a healthy living environment - with agricultural estates, the cathedral of surprising dimensions for its time, and even the cooler hall with its magnificent metal structure. As usual with Cultival's tours, the guide doesn't just explain the architectural and historical elements of the place, he also gives us some juicy tidbits (rather gourmet in Nestlé's case), yes, yes, you guessed it, he gives us some chocolate-making secrets!
This visit, which should appeal to young and old alike (from 7 years upwards), is also an opportunity to relax in a green setting, just 20 minutes from Paris.
